Frequently Asked Questions
What are the
TDG regulations?
The Transportation of
Dangerous Goods Regulations are a set of rules, set forth by Transport Canada.
They outline standards for shipping and transporting dangerous goods across
Canada. The Regulations also communicate the level of danger associated
with those goods.
How long is my TDG certificate valid
for?
A TDG
certificate is valid for 3 years.
If I change
employers, do I need a new certificate?
TDG certificates are not
transferable between employers. This means that, if you change jobs, you are
required to be re-certified by your new employer and have a TDG certificate with
that employer's contact information on it.
Where do I keep my certificate?
Your TDG certificate must be kept on you while you are
working. Most people keep it
in their wallets. While working, you are legally required to show your TDG
certificate to an inspector, on demand.
What happens if
I do not have a valid TDG certificate?
If you do
not have a valid TDG 'Clear Language' Certificate, you are in violation of the
regulations and may be fined. The company you work for may also be fined. Convictions
generally produce fines ranging from $3,000 to $7,000 for a first time offense.
I already have TDG
training, do I need to retrain?
If you
have a valid TDG certificate, then that certificate is valid
for 3 years from the date it was issued. If you or your employees do not
have a valid TDG certificate, you must be retrained and issued a new, valid TDG
certificate.
